Tonto Dikeh has opened up about why her music career didn’t go as planned — and she’s blaming it on the influence of the wrong friends.
The actress and politician shared the reflection while singing Don Moen’s “God is Good” on her Instagram page. Looking back, she admitted that her short-lived time in music was surrounded by people who didn’t have her best interests at heart.
Tonto, who dabbled in music around 2013 with songs like “Hi,” “Crazically Fit,” and “Jeje” — and even worked with Solid Star and Terry G — said the experience taught her a major life lesson about friendships and self-awareness.
“Watching this video reminds me of the time I had the worst kind of friends who pushed me to release an album,” she wrote. “Choose your friends wisely, and more importantly, be wise.”
She added with humor that if her singing skills had matched her ambition, she might have been as big as Tiwa Savage, Whitney Houston, or Cece Winans.
“If I could sing ehn, una for don tire for me,” she teased. “Who is Tiwa? Who is Whitney? Who is Cece Winans? Please abeg!”
Her post quickly drew laughter and support from fans who praised her honesty and sense of humor. But beneath the joke, Tonto’s message was clear — the people you surround yourself with can make or break your dreams.
